The WordPress Book Review plugin has long been used by bloggers to review books, and by authors to help them promote their own books. But did you know you can also use it to review movies, music, or even products? That’s right, we said it!
All of this is possible thanks to the newly added custom fields feature.
The Power of Custom Fields
Custom fields enable you to go beyond the default settings provided by the plugin, and show supplementary information for each of your reviews.
By way of example, suppose you review children’s books. In addition to the standard information such as title and author, you might want to include the illustrator’s name. Not a problem with custom fields.
Taking it a step further, you can choose to ignore all of the default fields, such as Author and Publisher, and instead add custom fields for Directed By, Written By and Runtime so that you can write movie reviews.
The possibilities are endless thanks to the power of custom fields!
How Do Custom Fields Work?
If you haven’t already done so, start by downloading and installing Book Review. To add custom fields, go to Settings > Book Review, and then select the Custom Fields tab. You can add a new field by clicking the Add Field button and giving it a name. Add as many fields as you like before saving your changes:
Now when you add or edit a post, you will see your new field(s) added to the Book Info section:
And they will also be added to the review box of your posts:
How cool is that?!?
